Wireless Charging: Power Your Phone Wire-Free

If you have ever untangled a Gordian knot of wires and cords, you understand the appeal of wireless charging.

Wireless Charging is exactly what it sounds like: it allows you to charge a device (like your smartphone) without plugging in a power cable. Simply placing it face up on a special mat or tabletop is enough to start charging up your smartphone’s battery, be it the iPhone X, iPhone8, Samsung Galaxy S8 or any other device that supports wireless charging.

How does it work?

Wireless charging works by transferring energy from the charging station to a receiver in the back of the phone via electromagnetic induction. The charging station uses an induction coil to create an alternating electromagnetic field, which the receiver coil in the phone converts back into electricity to be fed into the battery.

Why do we use it?

  1. Convenience: Connecting to a wireless charger is faster and easier as you don’t have to deal with cords.
  2. Speed: Wireless Charging is just as fast as using conventional chargers.
  3. Multiple Device Charging: Having multiple devices charging stations can help you charge multiple devices like smartphones, tablets etc. simultaneously.
  4.  Security: Wireless Charging brings security as you don’t have to put your phone into an unknown cable.
  5. Compatibility: All cell phones and chargers from different manufacturers are compatible provided they fulfill Qi specifications.

However, there are some downsides too to wireless charging. It causes environmental damage as a great extent of power is wasted due to inefficient charging pads. Another disadvantage is that it becomes really hard to use your smartphones while it is still charging as you can’t pick your phone up.
